Haas 403 - TOO MANY PROGS | Haas CNC Alarm

TOO MANY PROGS

This alarm occurs when the control has reached the maximum allowable number of stored programs in memory and a new program load or save operation is attempted. The MOCON board memory management system enforces program count limits based on control model and software version, typically 400 to 1000 programs depending on configuration. No new programs can be added until existing programs are deleted to free program slots.

Root Cause Summary

Haas Alarm 403 CAROUSEL TIMEOUT occurs when the automatic tool changer (ATC) carousel fails to complete its indexing movement within the programmed timeout period. This typically indicates mechanical binding, pneumatic pressure issues, or encoder feedback problems preventing proper carousel rotation.

Safety

  • Keep clear of carousel

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

    Check Air Pressure at Gauge

Verify air pressure reads 80-120 PSI on the machine's air gauge. Check compressor operation and air line connections.

Ensure machine is in E-STOP before checking pneumatic connections.

  2. 2

    Test Carousel Motor Engagement

From MDI mode, execute M06 T1 and listen for carousel motor engagement. Should hear distinct pneumatic engagement sound.

Use Setting 31 (ATC TIMEOUT) to temporarily increase timeout for testing - default is typically 15 seconds.

  3. 3

    Inspect Pneumatic Solenoids

Check carousel engage/disengage solenoids for proper operation. Verify electrical connections and solenoid coil resistance.

Solenoid coils should read approximately 24-48 ohms resistance when tested with multimeter.

DIY Feasiblemedium confidence

Call a technician if:

  • ·Encoder replacement required
  • ·Motor drive replacement needed
  • ·Carousel bearing replacement
  • ·Pneumatic system overhaul required

Prevention

  • Maintain proper air pressure (80-120 PSI)
  • Regular carousel track cleaning and lubrication
  • Keep tool holders properly seated
  • Monitor ATC cycle times for gradual increases

Common Mistakes

  • Ignoring gradual ATC slowdown before failure
  • Over-lubricating carousel track causing chip buildup
  • Not checking air pressure first
  • Forcing manual carousel rotation when binding occurs
