Haas 341 - CUTTER COMP END WITH G02 OR G03 | Haas CNC Alarm

CUTTER COMP END WITH G02 OR G03

This alarm is triggered when the control detects a cutter compensation cancel command (G40) is being executed during a circular motion (G02 or G03) instead of a linear move. The Haas control requires cutter compensation to be cancelled with a G00 or G01 move to properly retract the offset without gouging or incorrect tool path. This is a program structure error that halts execution.

Root Cause Summary

Haas Alarm 341 occurs when the rotary axis encoder feedback position deviates from the commanded position beyond the following error limit defined in Parameter 29 (Following Error Limit). The NGC control continuously monitors this error during motion and at standstill, triggering the alarm to prevent servo drive damage and mechanical component failure.

Safety

  • Part position may be incorrect
  • ⚠️ VERIFY part positioning before continuing machining operations
  • Disconnect power to the CNC machine before performing any electrical troubleshooting. Lockout/Tagout procedures must be followed.
  • Be aware of potential pinch points when working around the rotary axis. Keep hands and clothing clear of moving parts.
  • Ensure the rotary axis is properly supported before releasing any clamps or brakes. The table and workpiece could rotate unexpectedly.
  • High voltage may be present in the drive cabinet. Only qualified personnel should access the drive components.

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

    Check Following Error Value

Press CURRENT COMMANDS, navigate to the rotary axis display and observe the following error value during motion. Compare against Parameter 29 setting.

Following error should typically stay under 0.001 inches during normal operation

  2. 2

    Inspect Rotary Axis Mechanically

With machine powered down and E-stop engaged, manually rotate the rotary axis to check for binding, excessive friction, or mechanical obstructions.

Ensure machine is fully powered down and locked out before manual inspection

  3. 3

    Verify Lubrication and Wear

Check rotary axis bearings, worm gear lubrication, and inspect for excessive wear patterns that could cause binding during rotation.

Look for metal shavings or discoloration in the gear oil which indicates excessive wear

  4. 4

    Test Axis Movement

Use JOG mode to move the rotary axis at slow feed rates (10-50 RPM) while monitoring following error in CURRENT COMMANDS display.

Binding will show as periodic spikes in following error at specific rotational positions

DIY Feasiblehigh confidence

Call a technician if:

  • ·Drive module replacement required
  • ·Motor replacement needed
  • ·Servo optimization fails repeatedly
  • ·Mechanical binding cannot be resolved

Prevention

  • Regular rotary axis lubrication per maintenance schedule
  • Keep encoder area clean and free of coolant contamination
  • Monitor following error trends during routine operation
  • Perform periodic servo parameter backup

Common Mistakes

  • Clearing alarm without identifying root cause
  • Ignoring gradual increase in following error over time
  • Adjusting Parameter 29 instead of fixing underlying problem
  • Not checking mechanical binding before electrical troubleshooting
