Haas 360 - TOOL CHANGER DISABLED | Haas CNC Alarm

TOOL CHANGER DISABLED

This alarm occurs when the tool changer system has been intentionally disabled through software settings or when critical tool changer safety conditions are not met. The MOCON will not allow automatic tool change operations and M6 commands will be rejected until the condition is cleared. This can be either operator-initiated through a setting or triggered by a fault condition in the tool changer subsystem.

Root Cause Summary

HAAS 360 Bar Feeder Comm alarm fires when the NGC control loses communication with the bar feeder system through the serial communication interface. This typically occurs due to cable connection issues, incorrect parameter settings for the bar feeder interface, or bar feeder system malfunctions that prevent proper handshaking between the control and feeder.

Safety

  • Ensure bar feeder is safely stopped before inspecting cables or connections
  • Disconnect power to the CNC and bar feeder before inspecting or replacing any cables or components to avoid electrical shock.
  • Ensure the bar feeder is properly secured and cannot move during operation to prevent mechanical hazards.
  • Be aware of moving parts within the bar feeder and CNC. Keep hands and clothing clear during operation.
  • Refer to the bar feeder and CNC manuals for specific safety precautions.
  • Do not attempt to repair the bar feeder or CNC without proper training and authorization.
  • Always de-energize the equipment before handling cables to prevent electrical shock.
  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves and safety glasses.

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

    Inspect Physical Connections

Check the bar feeder communication cable at both the NGC control cabinet connection and the bar feeder interface box. Ensure all connectors are fully seated and locked.

Power down both the machine and bar feeder before disconnecting any cables.

  2. 2

    Test Cable Continuity

Using a multimeter, test continuity on all pins of the bar feeder communication cable. Check for opens, shorts, or intermittent connections.

Wiggle the cable while testing to identify intermittent connection issues.

  3. 3

    Verify Cable Routing

Ensure the communication cable is properly routed away from high-voltage cables and is not pinched or damaged by machine movement.

Replace the entire cable if any damage is found - splicing communication cables often causes intermittent issues.

DIY Feasiblehigh confidence

Call a technician if:

  • ·Control board hardware failure suspected
  • ·Parameter changes don't resolve communication
  • ·Multiple bar feeder interface components need replacement

Prevention

  • Regularly inspect bar feeder communication cables for wear
  • Keep parameter backup of working bar feeder configuration
  • Perform monthly bar feeder communication test cycles

Common Mistakes

  • Changing multiple parameters simultaneously without testing
  • Not power cycling both systems after parameter changes
  • Assuming cable is good without continuity testing
