A Axis Home Switch Fault

Coolant system flow rate insufficient

This alarm indicates the coolant flow sensor or pressure switch monitored by the IOCON board has detected insufficient flow rate through the coolant system. The flow sensor provides a signal to the IOCON which compares it against expected thresholds, and when flow drops below minimum, the alarm triggers to prevent tool damage or thermal issues. This is a critical protection feature for high-speed machining and tool life preservation.

Root Cause Summary

Haas Alarm 33 fires when the coolant flow sensor detects insufficient flow rate through the spindle or cutting tool coolant circuit. The NGC control monitors coolant flow via parameter settings and triggers this alarm when flow drops below the minimum threshold defined in the coolant system parameters.

Safety

  • Do not operate the spindle or start machining cycles while coolant flow is insufficient
  • Coolant can be hot and under pressure; allow system to cool and depressurize before service
  • Wear appropriate gloves and eye protection when handling coolant and replacing filters

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

    Check coolant tank level

Visually inspect the coolant tank and verify level is above the minimum fill line. Check tank sight gauge if equipped.

Ensure machine is in EMERGENCY STOP before opening any coolant system components.

  2. 2

    Refill coolant tank

Add appropriate coolant mixture to bring level to maximum fill line. Use manufacturer-recommended coolant concentration (typically 5-10%).

Always mix coolant concentrate with water before adding to tank to prevent concentration hot spots.

  3. 3

    Prime coolant system

Press COOLANT button on control panel to activate pump and verify flow returns to normal. Monitor for proper flow at spindle nozzle.

Run coolant for 30 seconds to purge any air from the system after refilling.

DIY Feasiblehigh confidence

Call a technician if:

  • ·Pump motor replacement required
  • ·Flow sensor calibration needed
  • ·Multiple system failures present

Prevention

  • Maintain proper coolant concentration and cleanliness
  • Replace filters on regular schedule
  • Check coolant level daily
  • Use high-quality cutting fluids

Common Mistakes

  • Ignoring gradual flow reduction before alarm
  • Using incorrect coolant mixture ratios
  • Failing to prime system after maintenance
  • Over-tightening filter housings causing damage
