Haas 322 - SUB PROG WITHOUT M99 | Haas CNC Alarm

SUB PROG WITHOUT M99

This alarm is triggered when the control reaches the end of a subprogram without encountering an M99 command to return to the calling program. The MOCON board monitors program structure and requires proper subprogram termination to maintain execution flow integrity. Without M99, the control cannot determine where to return in the main program, preventing potential infinite loops or crashes.

Root Cause Summary

Alarm 322 fires when the spindle head oil level sensor detects insufficient lubrication oil in the reservoir. The NGC control monitors a float-style level switch that opens when oil drops below the minimum operating level, immediately halting machine operation to prevent bearing damage.

Safety

  • Allow spindle to cool for at least 15 minutes before checking oil level, as hot oil expands and gives false high readings
  • Do not run spindle with low oil level - even brief operation can cause immediate bearing damage and potential catastrophic spindle failure
  • Use only manufacturer-approved ISO VG 68 spindle oil - incorrect viscosity will trigger premature wear and may void warranty

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

    Check Physical Oil Level

Open spindle head cover and visually inspect oil level in reservoir. Oil should be visible in sight glass or at minimum fill line.

Ensure spindle is stopped and machine is in emergency stop before opening covers

  2. 2

    Add Spindle Oil if Low

Add Haas-approved spindle oil (typically ISO VG 32) through fill port until level reaches maximum line. Use only specified oil type from Haas manual.

Add oil slowly to prevent overfilling and allow air bubbles to escape

  3. 3

    Reset Alarm and Test

Press RESET button, then start spindle at low RPM (500-1000) to verify alarm clears and oil circulates properly.

  4. 4

    Check for External Leaks

Inspect spindle head, oil lines, and fittings for external oil leaks that may have caused low level condition.

DIY Feasiblehigh confidence

Call a technician if:

  • ·Oil pump replacement required
  • ·Spindle bearing damage suspected
  • ·Control system input card failure
  • ·Internal spindle oil passage blockage

Prevention

  • Check spindle oil level weekly during routine maintenance
  • Replace spindle oil filter per maintenance schedule
  • Use only Haas-approved ISO VG 32 spindle oil
  • Monitor for external oil leaks during daily inspections

Common Mistakes

  • Overfilling oil reservoir causing foaming
  • Using wrong oil viscosity
  • Ignoring small oil leaks that lead to low level
  • Not checking sensor float for free movement during maintenance
