Haas 321 - AUTO OFF ALARM | Haas CNC Alarm

AUTO OFF ALARM

This alarm occurs when the control detects that the Auto mode was exited during program execution, typically through operator intervention or a safety interlock condition. The control flags this to prevent unintended machine motion or operation continuation without proper operator awareness. This is a software-driven safety feature monitored by the MOCON board that ensures the machine state matches the intended operational mode.

Root Cause Summary

Haas Alarm 321 Low Air Pressure fires when the pneumatic system pressure drops below the minimum threshold required for proper operation of air-operated components like tool changers, drawbars, and workholding devices. The NGC control monitors air pressure through a pressure switch that triggers this alarm when system pressure falls below approximately 80 PSI.

Safety

  • Low air can affect tool clamping safety
  • WARNING: Low air pressure compromises tool clamping safety
  • Ensure the machine is properly grounded to prevent electrical hazards.
  • Before working on the air system, disconnect the main air supply and bleed any residual pressure from the lines to prevent unexpected movement of pneumatic components.
  • Be cautious when working around pneumatic cylinders and valves, as they can move suddenly when air pressure is applied.
  • Wear safety glasses to protect your eyes from debris or pressurized air.
  • Some pneumatic components may contain springs under tension. Exercise caution when disassembling them.

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

    Check compressor output pressure

Verify the air compressor is producing at least 100 PSI at the tank and regulator output using a calibrated pressure gauge.

Ensure compressor is properly grounded and electrical connections are secure before testing.

  2. 2

    Inspect air supply regulator

Check the main air regulator feeding the machine for proper setting (90-100 PSI) and verify the regulator diaphragm is not damaged.

Haas machines typically require 6 CFM minimum at 90 PSI - undersized compressors will cause intermittent pressure drops.

  3. 3

    Test compressor duty cycle

Monitor compressor operation during machine cycle to ensure it can maintain pressure under load and is not short-cycling.

If compressor runs continuously but cannot maintain pressure, check for worn rings or valves in the compressor head.

DIY Feasiblehigh confidence

Call a technician if:

  • ·Pressure switch replacement required
  • ·Internal pneumatic component failure
  • ·Electrical troubleshooting beyond basic continuity testing

Prevention

  • Install adequate air compressor capacity (minimum 6 CFM at 100 PSI)
  • Implement regular air filter replacement schedule
  • Perform monthly leak detection inspections
  • Maintain proper air line moisture drainage

Common Mistakes

  • Using undersized air compressor
  • Ignoring small air leaks that compound over time
  • Installing incorrect filter micron ratings
  • Failing to drain moisture separators regularly
