Haas 316 - X OVER TRAVEL RANGE | Haas CNC Alarm

X OVER TRAVEL RANGE

This alarm indicates that a programmed or commanded X-axis move exceeds the maximum allowable travel range defined in the machine parameters. The MOCON control compares the target position against the software travel limits (Parameters 21-26 for working envelope) before the servo amp initiates motion. This prevents potential mechanical crashes and protects the machine from attempting moves beyond the physical capability of the axis.

Safety

  • Cannot store new programs

Common Causes

  • Work coordinate system (G54-G59) offset is incorrectly set, shifting the entire program envelope beyond machine limits
  • Fixture offset or tool length offset entered with wrong sign (positive instead of negative or vice versa) pushing coordinates out of range
  • Program was written for a machine with larger X-axis travel and not adjusted for the current machine model dimensions
  • Parameter 21 or 22 (X-axis travel limits) accidentally changed or corrupted, creating artificially restrictive boundaries
  • Machine home position was lost or incorrectly established, causing the control to calculate positions relative to wrong zero reference point

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Step 1: Press the POSITION button and verify current X-axis machine coordinate position is reasonable and within expected travel range for your machine model
  2. 2Step 2: Check OFFSETS/WORK display for all active work offsets (G54-G59) and fixture offsets to ensure values are correct and not excessively large
  3. 3Step 3: Review Parameters 21 and 22 in SETTINGS to confirm X-axis positive and negative software travel limits match the machine specifications for your model
  4. 4Step 4: Perform a controlled power-up home sequence to re-establish machine zero reference, then recheck machine coordinates in absolute mode
  5. 5Step 5: Verify the program line triggering the alarm and calculate the final X position including all active offsets and coordinate system shifts
  6. 6Step 6: If parameters appear corrupted or home position cannot be reliably established, contact Haas Applications or reload machine parameters from factory defaults and re-home all axes
