Haas 310 - INVALID G CODE | Haas CNC Alarm

INVALID G CODE

This alarm occurs when the Haas control encounters a G-code command it does not recognize or support in the current control software version. The control parses each program block and validates G-codes against its internal library; if a code is formatted incorrectly or is not part of the Haas G-code set, execution stops immediately at that line. This protects the machine from executing undefined motion or logic commands that could cause crashes.

Root Cause Summary

Alarm 310 occurs when the spindle fails to reach the programmed orientation position within the timeout period during M19 or automatic tool change sequences. The NGC control monitors encoder feedback to verify the spindle has settled within the orientation tolerance defined by parameter 78 (SPINDLE ORIENT TOLERANCE).

Safety

  • Spindle position uncertain
  • WARNING: Spindle position is uncertain - verify orientation before manual tool changes
  • Ensure machine power is OFF and locked out before performing any electrical troubleshooting.
  • Be aware of potential mechanical hazards when manually rotating the spindle. Use caution to avoid pinch points.
  • High voltages are present in the spindle drive. Only qualified personnel should troubleshoot the drive.
  • Allow the spindle motor and drive components to cool down before handling them to avoid burns.
  • Disconnect power to the spindle drive before disconnecting or connecting any wiring.
  • Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow lockout/tagout procedures.

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

    Check Orientation Timeout Parameter

Navigate to SETTING > PARAMETERS and verify parameter 77 (SPINDLE ORIENT TIME). Default is 5.0 seconds. If spindle is slow to orient, increase to 8-10 seconds.

Monitor actual orientation time using the spindle position display during manual M19 commands

  2. 2

    Test Manual Orientation

In MDI mode, execute M19 and observe spindle movement. Time how long it takes to complete orientation and compare to parameter 77 setting.

Ensure no tool is in spindle during manual orientation testing

  3. 3

    Verify Spindle Load

Check for excessive spindle load by monitoring spindle motor current during orientation. Heavy toolholders or damaged spindle bearings increase orientation time.

  4. 4

    Adjust Timeout if Necessary

If orientation consistently takes longer than parameter 77 setting, increase the timeout value incrementally until reliable operation is achieved.

DIY Feasiblehigh confidence

Call a technician if:

  • ·Encoder replacement required
  • ·Drive module replacement needed
  • ·Spindle motor issues confirmed

Prevention

  • Regular spindle encoder cable inspection
  • Periodic verification of orientation parameters
  • Monitor spindle orientation time trends

Common Mistakes

  • Setting orientation timeout too short
  • Ignoring gradual increase in orientation time
  • Not verifying physical orientation position after parameter changes
