Haas 261 - ROTARY CRC ERROR | Haas CNC Alarm

ROTARY CRC ERROR

This alarm indicates the control has detected a CRC error in the rotary axis configuration data stored in non-volatile memory on the MOCON board. The rotary axis parameters and configuration settings have failed the integrity check, meaning the stored data for 4th or 5th axis setup is corrupted and cannot be trusted for machine operation. Rotary axis functions will be disabled until the data is restored or recalculated.

Root Cause Summary

Haas Alarm 261 fires when the control expects the probe to make contact during a G31 probing cycle but the probe signal remains inactive. This typically occurs when the probe fails to physically contact the workpiece or when there's an electrical issue preventing the probe signal from reaching the control.

Safety

  • May indicate positioning error

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

    Check Probe Connection

Verify probe cable connection at the machine connector and ensure probe wire is connected to Skip Signal input on the control.

Power down spindle before handling probe connections

  2. 2

    Test Probe Signal

Go to CURRENT COMMANDS screen and manually activate probe while watching Skip Signal status change from OFF to ON.

The Skip Signal should toggle immediately when probe tip is pressed

  3. 3

    Inspect Cable Integrity

Check probe cable for damage, especially at cable chain entry points and spindle connection areas.

Replace damaged cables immediately to prevent intermittent failures

  4. 4

    Verify Parameter 31

Check Parameter 31 (Skip Signal) is set correctly - typically set to 1 for normally open probe configuration.

Parameter 31 = 0 for normally closed, Parameter 31 = 1 for normally open probes

DIY Feasiblehigh confidence

Call a technician if:

  • ·Probe replacement required
  • ·Parameter corruption suspected
  • ·Persistent electrical interference
  • ·Multiple probe-related alarms occurring

Prevention

  • Regular probe cable inspection
  • Proper probe storage when not in use
  • Avoid over-deflecting probe stylus
  • Keep probe connections clean and dry
  • Use appropriate probe feedrates

Common Mistakes

  • Ignoring probe cable wear
  • Incorrect Parameter 31 setting
  • Insufficient G31 move distance
  • Poor cable routing near interference sources
  • Using damaged or bent stylus
