Haas Alarm 10 - Axis Travel Limit

Axis Limit

This alarm occurs when an axis attempts to move beyond its software or hardware travel limits as defined in machine parameters or when a hardware overtravel limit switch is triggered. The MOCON board receives limit switch signals from IOCON and immediately halts axis motion to prevent mechanical damage. The machine will not allow motion in the faulted direction until the condition is cleared and the axis is moved away from the limit.

Safety

  • Check for collision

Common Causes

  • Work offset or fixture offset incorrectly set causing programmed moves to exceed available travel range
  • Failed or misaligned hardware limit switch on the axis gantry sending false trigger signals to IOCON
  • Parameters 20-29 for software travel limits set incorrectly after axis replacement or control board swap
  • Home position lost or incorrect due to encoder issues causing machine to believe it is in wrong physical location
  • Crash or impact shifted the limit switch mounting bracket or damaged the switch actuator dog

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Step 1: Check which axis faulted by viewing the alarm history and current position display in the Position page
  2. 2Step 2: Verify hardware limit switches using Diagnostics page under IOCON inputs - confirm switches change state at proper physical locations
  3. 3Step 3: Review Parameters 20-29 for axis travel limits and compare against machine specifications for your specific model
  4. 4Step 4: Perform controlled jog away from the limit using the handle or jog keys after confirming safe direction of travel
  5. 5Step 5: Inspect limit switch mounting, wiring connections to IOCON, and switch actuator dogs for physical damage or misalignment
  6. 6Step 6: If limit switches test correctly but alarm persists, re-home all axes and verify encoder counts in Diagnostics match expected values for current position
