Haas Alarm 1005 - Probe Error

Probe

This alarm is triggered when the probe signal is activated or interrupted unexpectedly during non-probing operations, or when the probe fails to trigger during an active probing cycle. The MOCON board monitors the probe input through a dedicated digital input and expects the signal state to match the commanded operation. This alarm halts all axis motion immediately to prevent potential collision or incorrect measurement data from being recorded into work offsets.

Root Cause Summary

Alarm 1005 occurs when the Haas NGC control loses communication with the probe system or receives invalid probe signals during G31 probing cycles. This typically results from wireless interference, low battery voltage, probe receiver issues, or incorrect probe parameter settings in the control.

Safety

  • Probing disabled

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

    Check Battery Status

Press CURRENT COMMANDS, then PROBING to access probe status screen. Check battery voltage indicator - should show green/good status.

Battery voltage below 2.4V typically causes intermittent communication issues before complete failure.

  2. 2

    Replace Probe Battery

Remove probe from spindle, unscrew battery cap, and replace with new 3V lithium battery (CR2032 or equivalent per probe manufacturer specs).

Always power down spindle before removing probe to prevent accidental activation.

  3. 3

    Test Communication

Install probe in spindle, navigate to MDI mode, and execute G31 Z-1.0 F10 to test probe trigger response and verify alarm clears.

Use a piece of paper to manually trigger probe during test - LED should illuminate on receiver when probe contacts paper.

DIY Feasiblehigh confidence

Call a technician if:

  • ·Receiver hardware replacement needed
  • ·Parameter corruption requiring control backup restoration
  • ·Multiple probe system components failing simultaneously

Prevention

  • Replace probe batteries every 6-12 months preventively
  • Keep spare receiver and batteries in stock
  • Document working parameter settings for quick restoration
  • Minimize RF interference sources near machine

Common Mistakes

  • Assuming probe is bad when battery is simply low
  • Not checking for RF interference from new equipment
  • Forgetting to verify probe input parameter matches physical connection
  • Replacing entire probe system when only receiver needs attention
