PS003

Fanuc Alarm PS003 - Data Overflow

TOO MANY DIGIT

Data exceeding maximum allowable number of digits was input. Check coordinate values and parameters.

Root Cause Summary

PS003 alarm occurs when numerical data input exceeds the maximum allowable digit count defined by Fanuc system parameters. This typically happens during manual data input (MDI), program editing, or parameter modification when coordinate values, feedrates, or other numerical values exceed system limits (typically 8 digits plus decimal point for coordinate values).

Safety

  • Verify machine travels before running

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

Check the MDI history or program line where alarm occurred. Press RESET, then navigate to SYSTEM > ALARM to view alarm history and capture the exact operation that triggered PS003.

  2. 2

Verify parameter 1006 (Input Increment IS-B/IS-C) for each axis under SYSTEM > PARAM > ALL. Standard is 0.001mm (IS-C) or 0.0001mm (IS-D). Coordinate values must not exceed 8 digits before decimal point.

  3. 3

Review the G-code line containing excessive data. Check for missing decimal points (e.g., X100000 instead of X100.000) or erroneous extra digits in X, Y, Z, or other axis commands.

  4. 4

Correct the coordinate value to within acceptable range (typically ±99999999 in machine units based on Bit 0 of parameter 1004). Re-enter command or edit program using EDIT mode.

Ensure work coordinate system offsets (G54-G59) in OFFSET SETTING are not causing accumulated position values to exceed limits.
