Fanuc Alarm PS002 - TV Check Error

TV ERROR

Number of characters in a block is odd when TV check is enabled. Indicates corrupted or malformed program data.

Root Cause Summary

PS002 TV Check Error occurs when the CNC detects an odd number of characters in a program block while TV (Vertical Parity) check is enabled via parameter 0020 bit 0 (TVP). This indicates data corruption during program transfer, storage, or retrieval, typically from RS-232C communication, memory card read errors, or SRAM battery backup failure corrupting program memory.

Safety

  • Review entire program after correction

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

Navigate SYSTEM > PARAM and check Parameter 0020 bit 0 (TVP). If TVP=1, TV check is active. Verify Parameter 0100-0103 (baud rate), 0101 bit 0-1 (stop bits), 0101 bit 2-3 (parity setting) match external device exactly.

  2. 2

Check RS-232C cable shielding, maximum 15m length, proper grounding. Inspect connector pins at JD1A/JD1B on main PCU board for corrosion or bent pins. Test with known good shielded cable.

  3. 3

Retransfer the program using DNC or drip-feed mode. Navigate EDIT mode, delete corrupted program (O-number), and perform fresh transfer with communication diagnostics displayed via SYSTEM > DIAGNOSIS > RS-232C to monitor errors in real-time.

  4. 4

If errors persist, temporarily set Parameter 0020 bit 0 (TVP=0) to disable TV check for diagnostic purposes, retransfer program, then re-enable TVP=1. If successful, root cause is communication line noise requiring filtering or cable replacement.

Disabling TVP removes data integrity protection. Re-enable after diagnostics and fix communication issue permanently.
