Fanuc 557 - Spindle tool unclamp error
Alarm 557 indicates the spindle tool clamp/unclamp system failed to release the tool holder during an unclamp operation. This typically occurs when the draw bar mechanism cannot pull back to release the tool, either due to mechanical obstruction, insufficient hydraulic/pneumatic pressure, or sensor feedback failure confirming the unclamped position.

SPINDLE TOOL UNCLAMP ERROR
Fanuc spindle alarm 557: SPINDLE TOOL UNCLAMP ERROR. The spindle drive or spindle motor has detected a fault condition that requires diagnosis before spindle operation can resume.
Root Cause Summary
Alarm 557 indicates the spindle tool clamp/unclamp system failed to release the tool holder during an unclamp operation. This typically occurs when the draw bar mechanism cannot pull back to release the tool, either due to mechanical obstruction, insufficient hydraulic/pneumatic pressure, or sensor feedback failure confirming the unclamped position.
Safety
Causes and Fixes
Check air pressure supply gauge at machine - verify minimum 5-6 bar (72-87 PSI) for pneumatic systems or check hydraulic pressure gauge for 20-30 bar minimum.
Inspect air/hydraulic lines to spindle for leaks, kinks, or disconnected fittings. Listen for air leaks around rotary union and spindle nose.
Test the unclamp solenoid valve manually or through PMC diagnostics - verify electrical signal reaches valve and valve actuates audibly.
Remove tool holder and manually actuate unclamp - observe draw bar movement. If sluggish or incomplete, clean/replace spindle cartridge seals or hydraulic piston seals.
Lock out spindle rotation and tag machine before manual testing
