Fanuc Alarm 5229 - WRITE PROTECTED

SYSTEM ALARM 5229

Fanuc alarm 5229: SYSTEM ALARM 5229. This alarm indicates a fault condition detected by the Fanuc control. Refer to the alarm number and name to identify the specific system or function involved.

Root Cause Summary

Fanuc alarm 5229 WRITE PROTECTED occurs when attempting to edit, overwrite, or delete a program or file that has write protection enabled. This is typically caused by parameter settings that protect programs from modification, file-level protection flags, or memory card write-protect switches being engaged.

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

Navigate to SYSTEM > PARAM and set parameter write enable switch (PWE) to 1. Access parameter display by pressing SYSTEM key, soft key PARAM.

Enabling parameter write requires proper authorization and key switch position may need to be at correct setting depending on machine builder configuration

  2. 2

Check parameter 3202 bits. Bit 0=1 protects O0000-O7999, Bit 1=1 protects O8000-O9999. Set appropriate bit to 0 to disable write protection for the program range you need to modify.

  3. 3

Check parameter 3201 (program number write protection). If set to a specific program number, that program is protected. Set to 0 to disable individual program protection.

  4. 4

After parameter changes, set PWE back to 0 and cycle power or reset the control for parameters to take effect.

Always return parameter write enable to OFF after completing parameter modifications
