Fanuc 523 - Spindle feedback error
Alarm 523 indicates the spindle control system is not receiving proper feedback signals from the spindle motor encoder or resolver. This typically occurs when there is a mismatch between commanded and actual spindle position/speed, or when the feedback device itself has failed or lost communication with the spindle drive.
Fanuc 523 - Spindle feedback error
SPINDLE FEEDBACK ERROR
Fanuc spindle alarm 523: SPINDLE FEEDBACK ERROR. The spindle drive or spindle motor has detected a fault condition that requires diagnosis before spindle operation can resume.
Root Cause Summary
Alarm 523 indicates the spindle control system is not receiving proper feedback signals from the spindle motor encoder or resolver. This typically occurs when there is a mismatch between commanded and actual spindle position/speed, or when the feedback device itself has failed or lost communication with the spindle drive.
Safety
Causes and Fixes
Power down the machine and lock out. Inspect the spindle encoder cable from the motor to the amplifier for damage, oil contamination, or loose connections at both ends. Reseat all connectors firmly.
Ensure proper LOTO procedures before accessing electrical components.
Check encoder cable continuity and insulation resistance using a multimeter. Verify proper voltage supply to the encoder (typically 5VDC or 12VDC depending on model) at the amplifier connector.
Inspect the encoder mounting at the spindle motor. Check for mechanical damage, excessive runout, or contamination from coolant/oil ingress. Verify the encoder coupling is intact and secure.
If cable and connections are good, temporarily swap the encoder with a known good spare or monitor encoder output signals (A, B, Z phase) with an oscilloscope during manual spindle rotation to verify proper pulse generation.
Do not rotate spindle with encoder disconnected as this may cause drive faults or parameter corruption.
