Fanuc Alarm 346 - TOOL CHANGE ILLEGAL TOOL NUM
Alarm 346 occurs when the CNC detects a tool number in the program (T code) that exceeds the maximum allowable tool number defined in the system parameters, or when the tool number format is invalid. This is a program execution safeguard that prevents attempting to call a tool that does not exist in the tool magazine or turret configuration.

SYSTEM ALARM 346
Fanuc alarm 346: SYSTEM ALARM 346. This alarm indicates a fault condition detected by the Fanuc control. Refer to the alarm number and name to identify the specific system or function involved.
Root Cause Summary
Alarm 346 occurs when the CNC detects a tool number in the program (T code) that exceeds the maximum allowable tool number defined in the system parameters, or when the tool number format is invalid. This is a program execution safeguard that prevents attempting to call a tool that does not exist in the tool magazine or turret configuration.
Causes and Fixes
Check the program line causing the alarm and note the tool number commanded (e.g., T25, T99, etc.).
Navigate to SYSTEM > PARAM and check parameter 3107 (machining center) or parameter 5004 (lathe) to verify the maximum tool number setting. For example, if parameter 3107 = 24, any T code above T24 will trigger this alarm.
Verify the actual tool magazine capacity matches the parameter setting. Check parameter 3022 (number of magazine pots) for machining centers or parameter 5010 (number of turret stations) for lathes.
Either correct the tool number in the program to a valid tool within range, or increase the parameter value if the physical magazine supports more tools and the incorrect parameter was set during machine configuration.
Changing parameter 3107 or 5004 requires parameter write enable (parameter 0000 bit 0 = 1) and should only be done if machine hardware supports the higher tool count.
