Fanuc Alarm 334 - OFFSET IS OUT OF EFFECTIVE RANGE

FANUC ALARM 334

An offset data which was out of the effective range was specified (malfunction prevention function).

Root Cause Summary

Fanuc Alarm 334 occurs when an offset value (work offset, tool offset, or macro variable offset) exceeds the maximum allowable range defined by system parameters. This is a malfunction prevention function designed to catch programming errors or corrupted offset data that could cause machine crashes or damage.

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

Press OFFSET key, navigate to WORK ZERO OFFSET screen. Check all active work offsets (G54-G59, G54.1 P1-P48) for abnormally large values (exceeding machine travel or beyond ±99999.999mm/inch).

  2. 2

Access SYSTEM > PARAM and verify parameter 1320 (maximum input value for coordinate data). Compare against current offset values. Check parameters 5440-5443 (offset value limits for X, Y, Z) and 5444-5447 (4th-7th axis limits) if set.

  3. 3

If offset values are corrupted, reset specific work offset by entering 0.0 in X, Y, Z fields or restore from known-good backup. For macro-driven offset writes, verify program logic uses appropriate range checking before writing to #5221-#5346 variables.

Clearing work offsets will require re-establishing part zero. Record existing valid offsets before clearing.

  4. 4

If problem persists after clearing offsets, backup and restore offset data via SYSTEM > PMC > I/O screen or memory card backup function. Check battery voltage (DIAGNOSIS > STATUS > BATTERY) for offset memory retention issues.

DIY Feasiblehigh confidence

Call a technician if:

  • ·Parameter corruption suspected
  • ·Repeated alarm after offset corrections
  • ·Hardware encoder issues indicated

Prevention

  • Implement offset value validation in setup procedures
  • Regular backup of offset data
  • Train operators on maximum allowable offset ranges
  • Use tool management system with range checking

Common Mistakes

  • Entering diameter instead of radius for tool offsets
  • Confusing machine coordinates with work coordinates
  • Not accounting for unit conversion (inch/metric)
  • Ignoring parameter-defined limits during setup
