Fanuc Alarm 322 - FINISHING SHAPE OVER STARTING POINT

PROGRAM ALARM 322

An invalid shape which is over the cycle starting point is specified in the shape program for G71 or G72.

Root Cause Summary

Fanuc Alarm 322 occurs during G71 (turning roughing cycle) or G72 (facing roughing cycle) when the programmed finishing shape extends beyond the cycle starting point in an invalid manner. This is a programming error where the shape definition violates the geometric rules for stock removal cycles, typically when the finishing contour crosses or extends past the point where the cycle was initiated.

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

Review the G71 or G72 program block and identify the cycle start point coordinates (absolute position before G71/G72 execution).

  2. 2

Examine all N-sequence blocks between the starting sequence number (P address) and ending sequence number (Q address) in the shape program. Verify no X coordinates (for G72) or Z coordinates (for G71) extend beyond the cycle initiation point.

  3. 3

Check parameter 5143 bit 0 (G71 type selection) to understand which G71 format is active. Type I and Type II have different geometry rules for shape definition.

  4. 4

Correct the finishing shape coordinates or reposition the cycle starting point to ensure the finish profile remains within valid boundaries for the selected roughing cycle type.

DIY Feasiblehigh confidence

Call a technician if:

  • ·Parameter changes required beyond operator level
  • ·Persistent alarm after geometry corrections
  • ·Suspected control software issue

Prevention

  • Always use graphics simulation to verify G71/G72 cycles before running
  • Establish consistent work coordinate system procedures
  • Create standard templates for rough turning cycles
  • Regularly backup and document parameter settings

Common Mistakes

  • Programming finishing shape that extends past stock material
  • Mixing absolute and incremental coordinates in P-Q sequence
  • Forgetting to account for tool nose radius in finishing geometry
  • Using incorrect line numbers for P and Q references
