Fanuc 276 - Rigid tapping parameter error

RIGID TAPPING PARAMETER ERROR

Fanuc PS program alarm 276: RIGID TAPPING PARAMETER ERROR. This alarm is triggered by an illegal or incorrectly formatted command in the part program, or a programming condition that the Fanuc control cannot execute.

Root Cause Summary

Alarm 276 occurs when the rigid tapping cycle (G84 or G74) is programmed with incompatible parameters or missing required settings. This typically involves incorrect spindle speed, feedrate relationship, or parameter configuration that prevents proper synchronization between spindle rotation and Z-axis feed during tapping.

Safety

  • Verify corrected program or parameters before resuming machining

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

Review the tapping block and verify the F value equals S value multiplied by the thread pitch (e.g., for M6×1.0 at 500 RPM: F should be 500).

  2. 2

Check that both S (spindle speed) and F (feedrate) are explicitly programmed in the G84/G74 block or active in modal state.

  3. 3

Verify the pitch is correctly specified in the Q or K address if required by your control configuration.

  4. 4

Test with a known-good rigid tapping program to confirm the alarm is program-related and not a control issue.
