FANUC Alarm 281 - Illegal Axis Command in PMC
Alarm 281 occurs when the PMC ladder program attempts to command axis movement while the CNC has active control of that axis. This conflict typically results from improper mode selection, incorrect ladder logic sequencing, or failure to check axis control status flags before issuing PMC axis commands.
FANUC Alarm 281 - Illegal Axis Command in PMC
An axis move command was issued from the PMC (Programmable Machine Controller) that conflicts with CNC axis control. The axis is under CNC control and cannot simultaneously accept PMC axis commands.
Root Cause Summary
Alarm 281 occurs when the PMC ladder program attempts to command axis movement while the CNC has active control of that axis. This conflict typically results from improper mode selection, incorrect ladder logic sequencing, or failure to check axis control status flags before issuing PMC axis commands.
Causes and Fixes
Check the current CNC mode on the operator panel. Verify if machine is in AUTO, MDI, EDIT, or HANDLE mode.
Access PMC ladder diagnosis screen (PMC > LADDER) and identify which G or F address is being written to for axis commands. Note the ladder rung number and axis address.
Verify the interlock logic in the ladder that should prevent PMC axis commands when CNC is in control. Check for proper use of mode signals (F0000-F0007) and axis control status bits (G0140-G0147).
Modify ladder logic to add or correct interlock conditions using CNC mode signals and axis busy flags before allowing PMC axis movement commands. Ensure proper sequencing between CNC and PMC control handoff.
Do not modify ladder logic without backing up the existing PMC program and documenting all changes.
