Fanuc Alarm 230 - Rotary Table Error

Rotary Table Alarm

Fanuc alarm 230: Rotary Table Alarm. A peripheral machine system has reported a fault. This typically involves a machine-builder PMC alarm for a hydraulic, coolant, or auxiliary system.

Root Cause Summary

Alarm 230 occurs when the G161 (High-Speed Peck Drilling Cycle) command is executed without a proper R code specification for the retract plane, or when the R value is programmed as a negative number. This is a programming error that prevents the cycle from executing because the control cannot determine the safe retract position for the drilling operation.

Safety

  • Table position uncertain

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

Review the active NC program at the alarm stop position. Press RESET, then navigate to EDIT mode or MEM/MDI screen to identify the exact G161 block that triggered the alarm.

  2. 2

Verify the G161 block syntax. Proper format requires: G161 X_ Y_ Z_ R_ Q_ F_. The R code must be present and defines the retract plane position in absolute coordinates.

  3. 3

Add the missing R code to the G161 block with appropriate retract plane value. Ensure R value is set above the workpiece surface (e.g., G161 Z-50. R5. Q5. F500; where R5. is the retract plane).

  4. 4

Reset the alarm by pressing RESET key, return to program start or appropriate sequence number, and restart cycle. Verify operation in single block mode initially.

Ensure tool clearance is adequate when setting R value to prevent collision with workpiece or fixtures.

DIY Feasiblehigh confidence

Call a technician if:

  • ·Parameter changes required beyond operator level
  • ·Macro programming expertise needed
  • ·Hardware rotary table issues suspected

Prevention

  • Always specify R parameter explicitly in G161 blocks
  • Use program verification before execution
  • Implement macro variable validation routines
  • Maintain consistent R value sign conventions

Common Mistakes

  • Assuming default R values exist for G161
  • Using negative R values for depth specification
  • Not initializing macro variables before G161
  • Copying G161 blocks without verifying R parameters
