Fanuc 234 - G code not allowed during skip

G CODE NOT ALLOWED DURING SKIP

Fanuc PS program alarm 234: G CODE NOT ALLOWED DURING SKIP. This alarm is triggered by an illegal or incorrectly formatted command in the part program, or a programming condition that the Fanuc control cannot execute.

Root Cause Summary

Alarm 234 occurs when a G-code command is programmed within a skip function block (G31 or similar skip operations) that is not permitted during probe or skip operations. The control cannot execute certain motion or modal commands while actively performing a skip function, as this would conflict with the skip logic or create unsafe conditions.

Safety

  • Verify corrected program or parameters before resuming machining

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

Review the part program at the line number indicated in the alarm. Identify the G31 skip block and any G-codes in the same block or immediately following blocks.

  2. 2

Check for prohibited commands such as G28/G30 (reference return), G52/G53 (work coordinate changes), G65/G66 (macro calls), or canned cycles (G73-G89) within or immediately after the G31 block.

  3. 3

Separate the G31 skip command from the prohibited G-code by placing them in different blocks. Insert the skip function, then program the next operation in a subsequent block after skip completion.

  4. 4

Verify the program logic ensures the G31 skip completes and the control returns to normal motion mode before executing additional G-code commands. Test the modified program in single block mode.

Always verify probe or skip clearances after program modifications to prevent workpiece or probe damage.
