Fanuc 174 - Stroke limit at stored stroke check 3

STROKE LIMIT AT STORED STROKE CHECK 3

Fanuc PS program alarm 174: STROKE LIMIT AT STORED STROKE CHECK 3. This alarm is triggered by an illegal or incorrectly formatted command in the part program, or a programming condition that the Fanuc control cannot execute.

Root Cause Summary

FANUC alarm 174 occurs when a programmed axis movement would exceed the stored stroke limit boundaries defined in parameter 1320 (stored stroke check 3). This is a safety feature that prevents the machine from moving beyond the allowable work envelope for the third stored stroke limit zone. The alarm is triggered during program execution or dry run when the control detects a commanded position that violates these limits.

Safety

  • Verify corrected program or parameters before resuming machining

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

Identify the program line number where alarm occurred from the diagnostic screen and review the commanded axis positions in that block.

  2. 2

Check parameters 1320-1327 to verify the stored stroke limit 3 values for each axis (minimum and maximum positions).

Note which parameter bit enables stored stroke check 3 (typically bit 4 of parameter 1300).

  3. 3

Compare the programmed position against the stored stroke limit 3 boundaries to confirm which axis exceeds the limit.

  4. 4

Modify the part program to keep all movements within the allowable stroke limit 3 zone, or adjust work offset (G54-G59) to reposition the part within limits.

Do not change stroke limit parameters without supervisor approval and verification of mechanical travel limits.
