Fanuc Alarm 094 - Work Coordinate Required

Coordinate System Not Set

Fanuc program alarm 094: Coordinate System Not Set. The part program contains an error or illegal condition that the Fanuc control cannot execute. Correct the program to clear this alarm.

Root Cause Summary

Fanuc Alarm 094 occurs when the CNC attempts to execute a machining operation without an active work coordinate system (G54-G59, G54.1, etc.). This alarm is triggered when the control detects that no work offset has been established or called prior to positioning or cutting commands, typically after power-on, program restart, or when G-code omits the necessary work coordinate selection.

Safety

  • Position reference unknown

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

Review the active NC program at the line preceding the alarm. Verify that a work coordinate command (G54, G55, G56, G57, G58, or G59) is programmed before any G00, G01, G02, or G03 movement commands.

  2. 2

Check parameter 1202 bit 5 (G54) which determines if G54 is automatically selected at power-on. If set to 0, work coordinate must be explicitly programmed. Navigate to SYSTEM > PARAM > search for parameter 1202.

  3. 3

Insert appropriate work coordinate command (typically G54) at program start or in the initialization block after tool change. Ensure it appears before the first positioning command.

  4. 4

Reset the alarm using RESET button, return to program start, and execute the corrected program from the beginning to verify work coordinate activation.

DIY Feasiblehigh confidence

Call a technician if:

  • ·Parameter 3104 needs modification
  • ·Repeated coordinate system corruption
  • ·Work offset values appear corrupted or unstable

Prevention

  • Avoid modifying work offsets during program execution
  • Use program stop (M00/M01) before making coordinate changes
  • Always use sequence number restart after coordinate modifications
  • Document coordinate system states before making changes

Common Mistakes

  • Attempting P-type restart after any coordinate change
  • Not verifying active coordinate system before restart
  • Forgetting to cancel G92 before coordinate system changes
  • Modifying wrong coordinate system (G54 vs G55, etc.)
