Fanuc Alarm 041 - INTERFERENCE IN G41/G42

SYSTEM ALARM 41

Fanuc alarm 041: SYSTEM ALARM 41. This alarm indicates a fault condition detected by the Fanuc control. Refer to the alarm number and name to identify the specific system or function involved.

Root Cause Summary

FANUC Alarm 041 occurs when the CNC detects a geometrical interference condition during tool radius compensation (G41/G42) that would cause excessive cutting or gouging. The control calculates that the compensated tool path creates an interference where the tool radius is too large relative to the programmed geometry, typically in tight corners, small arcs, or acute angles.

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

Navigate to OFFSET SETTING screen and verify the tool nose radius value in the geometry offset register (typically R value for turning or radius value for milling). Compare this value against the smallest internal radius or corner in the programmed path.

  2. 2

Check the program geometry where the alarm occurs. Calculate minimum allowable feature size: internal radius must be greater than tool radius, and corner angles should allow tool clearance. For 90-degree internal corners, tool radius should be smaller than both approach and departure move lengths.

  3. 3

If tool size cannot be reduced, modify the part program to add radius breaks or chamfers at sharp corners, increase internal radii, or split the operation into rough and finish passes with appropriate tool sizes.

  4. 4

Check Parameter 5004 (interference check for G41/G42). If set to 0, interference checking is disabled. Recommended setting is 1 to enable protection. Verify Parameter 5002 bit settings for compensation behavior during interference conditions.

Disabling interference checking (Parameter 5004=0) will allow program execution but may cause part scrapping or tool breakage due to excessive cutting.

DIY Feasiblehigh confidence

Call a technician if:

  • ·Parameter changes required beyond operator authority
  • ·Persistent alarms after program and offset corrections
  • ·Suspected control software issues

Prevention

  • Always verify tool radius values match actual tools
  • Use graphics simulation to verify compensated paths
  • Implement proper lead-in/lead-out moves for compensation
  • Avoid sharp corners in compensated sections

Common Mistakes

  • Using wrong G41/G42 direction
  • Insufficient startup move length
  • Tool radius larger than part geometry
  • Starting compensation with G00 rapid move
