Fanuc Alarm 022 - R OR I,J,K COMMAND NOT FOUND

FANUC ALARM 22

The circular interpolation command lacks arc radius R or coordinate I, J, or K for the distance between the start point and the arc center.

Root Cause Summary

Fanuc alarm 022 occurs when a G02 or G03 circular interpolation command is issued without the required arc definition parameters. The CNC control requires either R (radius) or I, J, K (incremental center coordinates) to calculate the arc path, and their absence prevents execution of the circular move.

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

Enter EDIT mode and navigate to the program block triggering the alarm. Press SYSTEM > ALARM to view the current block number (N-number) or sequence causing the fault.

  2. 2

    Examine the G02 or G03 command in the flagged block. Verify presence of either R (radius format) or I, J, K (center format). Example correct formats: G02 X10.0 Y10.0 R5.0 F100 or G02 X10.0 Y10.0 I5.0 J0 F100.

  3. 3

If using macro variables (#500-#999 range), verify the variable contains a valid non-zero value. Access CUSTOM screen or use DGNOS > MACRO to view current variable values. Empty or undefined variables will cause parameter omission.

  4. 4

Add the missing R value or appropriate I, J, K parameters to the circular interpolation block. For XY plane (G17): use I and J. For ZX plane (G18): use I and K. For YZ plane (G19): use J and K. Reset alarm and restart program.

Ensure the arc endpoint is geometrically valid. Arc radius/center must create a solvable circle segment or alarm 020/021 may follow.

DIY Feasiblehigh confidence

Call a technician if:

  • ·Program structure corruption
  • ·Repeated alarms after parameter correction
  • ·CAM post-processor generating invalid code

Prevention

  • Always include either R parameter or complete I,J,K coordinates in circular interpolation
  • Use program verification tools before loading to CNC
  • Implement program backup procedures
  • Train operators on proper G02/G03 syntax

Common Mistakes

  • Mixing R method with I,J,K method in same block
  • Using incorrect plane selection before circular interpolation
  • Forgetting to specify arc parameters when copying/modifying existing programs
  • Incomplete parameter entry during manual programming
