Fanuc 23 - Cannot use r and ijk

CANNOT USE R AND IJK

Fanuc PS program alarm 23: CANNOT USE R AND IJK. This alarm is triggered by an illegal or incorrectly formatted command in the part program, or a programming condition that the Fanuc control cannot execute.

Root Cause Summary

This alarm occurs when a circular interpolation command (G02/G03) contains both R format (radius) and IJK format (center point coordinates) in the same block. The Fanuc control requires you to specify the arc using either the R method OR the IJK method, but never both simultaneously.

Safety

  • Verify corrected program or parameters before resuming machining

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

Identify the block number displayed with the alarm and locate it in the part program.

  2. 2

Examine the G02 or G03 command and verify if both R and any combination of I, J, or K appear in the same block.

  3. 3

Remove either the R value or the IJK values from the block. For simple arcs less than 180 degrees, R format is simpler. For arcs greater than 180 degrees, use R with negative value or switch to IJK format.

  4. 4

Reset the alarm, restart the program from a safe position, and verify the arc executes correctly.

Always perform a dry run or single block execution after program modifications to verify correct tool path.
