Fanuc Alarm 030 - Invalid Tool Offset Number

Illegal Cutter Offset No

Fanuc program alarm 030: Illegal Cutter Offset No. The part program contains an error or illegal condition that the Fanuc control cannot execute. Correct the program to clear this alarm.

Root Cause Summary

Alarm 030 occurs when a G-code program specifies a tool offset number (H code or D code) that exceeds the maximum number of offset registers configured in the CNC system parameters. This is typically caused by programming errors, incorrect parameter settings limiting the offset memory range, or attempting to use offset numbers beyond the system's licensed capacity.

Safety

  • Offset not applied

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

Navigate to SYSTEM > PARAM and check parameter 5001 (number of geometry offsets) and parameter 5003 (number of wear offsets). Note the maximum values configured.

  2. 2

Review the G-code program at the alarm line and identify the H code (geometry offset) or D code (cutter compensation/wear offset) value being called.

  3. 3

Verify the offset number in the program does not exceed the parameter limits. For example, if parameter 5001 is set to 200, H codes must be H0-H200.

  4. 4

Either reduce the offset number in the program to within range, or increase parameters 5001/5003 if additional offset memory is available and licensed. Power cycle the control after parameter changes.

Parameter modification requires PWE (Parameter Write Enable) switch. Incorrect parameter settings can affect all tool offset functions.

DIY Feasiblehigh confidence

Call a technician if:

  • ·Parameter changes required beyond operator authority
  • ·Persistent alarm after program corrections
  • ·System configuration modifications needed

Prevention

  • Validate offset numbers during program creation
  • Use consistent offset numbering scheme
  • Initialize macro variables before use
  • Regular program syntax checking

Common Mistakes

  • Using H0 or D0 for compensation
  • Forgetting to initialize macro variables
  • Exceeding maximum offset range
  • Using decimal values in offset numbers
