Siemens 840D 61417 - Channel block: Probe will collide with the carrier of the reference
Alarm 61417 fires when CYCLE973 (probing cycle) detects that the probe stylus will physically collide with the workpiece carrier or fixture during the approach to the reference/touch-off position. This occurs because the NCK calculates an unsafe tool path based on current axis positions and the probe geometry defined in the measuring data.

Channel block: Probe will collide with the carrier of the reference
Siemens SINUMERIK alarm 61417: Channel block: Probe will collide with the carrier of the reference. This alarm indicates a fault or error condition on the SINUMERIK 840D control. Refer to the Siemens SINUMERIK alarm documentation for the complete description and remedy.
Root Cause Summary
Alarm 61417 fires when CYCLE973 (probing cycle) detects that the probe stylus will physically collide with the workpiece carrier or fixture during the approach to the reference/touch-off position. This occurs because the NCK calculates an unsafe tool path based on current axis positions and the probe geometry defined in the measuring data.
Safety
Causes and Fixes
Verify the current position of all axes in the measuring cycle using the PLC diagnostics menu (Menu > Diagnostics > Axis Position). Document the X, Y, Z coordinates displayed on the HMI or via SCOUT/SINUMERIK Operate.
Check the probe offset and geometry in the tool management (MD10050 - tool table structure). Confirm the probe diameter and stylus length are correctly entered. Measure physical probe dimensions and compare against stored values.
Incorrect probe geometry in the tool table is the primary source of false collision warnings.
Move all cycle axes to a safe, known position away from the workpiece and carrier using a manual JOG command (NCK > Manual > Jog) or a setup block in the part program (G00 X__ Y__ Z__) before calling CYCLE973.
Re-execute CYCLE973 and monitor the HMI feedback. If alarm 61417 no longer triggers, the issue was initial position dependent.
