Siemens 840D 61332 - Channel Block: Modify tool tip position

Channel Block: Modify tool tip position

The tool tip is below the measuring probe surface (e.g. for a ring gauge or cube). Alarm is triggered: CYCLE971, CYLCE972, CYCLE982, E_MT_CAL, E_MT_LEN, E_MT_RAD. Remedy: Place the tool above the measuring probe surface.

Safety

  • Refer to Siemens documentation
  • Ensure qualified technician performs repairs

Common Causes

  • Tool tip positioned below the measuring probe surface during tool measurement cycle initialization
  • Incorrect tool offset or tool length compensation values causing tool to approach from below probe
  • Measuring probe (ring gauge, cube, or similar reference) positioned too high relative to tool parking position
  • Tool holder or spindle orientation misaligned, affecting tool approach geometry
  • Previous tool measurement cycle incomplete or aborted, leaving tool in incorrect position

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Manually position the tool above the measuring probe surface using MDI or manual jog, then verify clearance visually
  2. 2Review and correct tool offset table values (tool length and radius compensation) in the part program or offset management screen
  3. 3Check measuring probe mounting height and re-establish probe reference position using calibration routine if needed
  4. 4Inspect spindle orientation and tool holder seating; ensure tool is fully seated and spindle is at correct angle for measurement cycle
  5. 5Clear the alarm, restart the tool measurement cycle (CYCLE971, CYCLE972, CYCLE982, E_MT_CAL, E_MT_LEN, or E_MT_RAD) and observe tool approach path
