61230

Siemens 61230 - Block : Tool probe diameter too small

Block: Tool probe diameter too small

The tool probe has not been calibrated correctly

Root Cause Summary

Alarm 61230 fires when the tool probe calibration variables E_MESS_MT_DR[n] (radial diameter) or E_MESS_MT_DL[n] (length offset) in GUD7 data block contain values below the system minimum threshold, typically indicating incomplete or failed probe calibration cycles (E_MT_CAL, E_MT_RAD, E_MT_LEN). The 840D NCK rejects undersized probe geometry as physically impossible for touch-trigger probe operation.

Safety

  • Only qualified personnel should diagnose and clear control alarms; follow the machine builder's safety procedures and lockout/tagout where hardware work is required.

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

Access NCK diagnostics via HMI: Diagnosis > Measuring > Tool Probe Calibration. Verify E_MESS_MT_DR[n] and E_MESS_MT_DL[n] values in GUD7 for the active probe n. Values should be > 2.0mm (typical probe minimum).

Do not attempt calibration cycles without proper probe hardware installed and secure in spindle.

  2. 2

Execute complete E_MT_CAL cycle (or E_MT_RAD for radial, E_MT_LEN for length) from JOG mode per machine builder documentation. Monitor NCK parameter MD10580 (probe cycle execution status) during run.

  3. 3

After cycle completes, re-check GUD7 values. E_MESS_MT_DR[n] should now contain measured probe diameter (typically 4.0–6.0mm for M3/M4 probes); E_MESS_MT_DL[n] should contain length offset in mm.

  4. 4

Save GUD7 data block to persistent storage via Progr > Memory > Save. Clear alarm 61230 (RESET or MDA mode). Re-trigger the failing measuring cycle.
