Siemens 840D 61239 - Channel Block: Tool change point lies within retraction area!

Channel Block: Tool change point lies within retraction area!

The tool change point has to be far enough outside the retraction area so that when the revolver is swiveled, no tool extends into the retraction area. The alarm is triggered by the following cycle: F_SP_RP

Safety

  • Refer to Siemens documentation
  • Ensure qualified technician performs repairs

Common Causes

  • Tool change point coordinates are too close to or overlap with the defined retraction area boundaries
  • Retraction area dimensions in machine parameters are incorrectly set or too large
  • Tool holder or revolver geometry has changed, reducing available clearance space
  • Tool change point was manually edited without verifying clearance against current retraction area

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Review the tool change point coordinates in the active part program and machine configuration; compare against the retraction area definition in the machine data
  2. 2Verify retraction area boundaries are correctly defined in the machine parameters; ensure they match the actual physical clearance limits of the turret/revolver assembly
  3. 3Physically inspect the tool changer mechanism and revolver to confirm no tools or holders are physically obstructing the retraction area during rotation
  4. 4Adjust tool change point coordinates to move further away from retraction area boundaries, or reduce retraction area size if physically safe; retest with F_SP_RP cycle
  5. 5Check machine geometry data and verify tool holder offsets have not changed due to component wear or replacement
