Siemens 4076 - Machine data could not be changed with permission level

Machine data could not be changed with permission level

On executing a TOA file or when writing data from the part program an attempt has been made to write data with a higher protection level than the access authorization currently set in the control. The data in question have not been written and program execution is continued without hindrance. This alarm is issued on acknowledging alarm 4075. It can be cleared only with Power ON Control reaction: NC Start disable in this channel. Alarm display.

Root Cause Summary

Alarm 4076 occurs when a TOA file or part program attempts to write machine data (MD) or setting data (SD) with a protection level higher than the current user's access authorization. The SINUMERIK 840D control enforces data protection hierarchy and blocks unauthorized writes while continuing program execution.

Safety

  • Only qualified personnel should diagnose and clear control alarms; follow the machine builder's safety procedures and lockout/tagout where hardware work is required.

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

Log into the HMI with administrator or manufacturer-level credentials (typically Engineer or Manufacturer login). Check current user access level via Diagnostics > User Management > Access Level or through the NCK menu.

  2. 2

Verify the protection level of the specific MD/SD parameter being written. Access Parameters > Machine Data > [parameter number] and check the 'Protection Level' field. Common protected parameters include MD10000 (Axis configuration), MD18000 (Interpolation), and SD40000 (Servo parameters).

  3. 3

Elevate user permissions by logging in with the appropriate access level matching the parameter's protection level, then re-execute the TOA file or part program.

Modifying protected MD/SD parameters with manufacturer or Siemens-level protection should only be performed by qualified personnel to avoid machine damage or safety violations.

  4. 4

Document the parameter change in the machine's configuration log and verify the write succeeded by checking the parameter value post-execution.
