Siemens 26101 - Axis drive communication failure

Axis drive communication failure

For PROFIdrive only: The drive is not communicating Control reaction: Mode group not ready. The NC switches to follow-up mode. Channel not ready. NC Start disable in this channel. Axes of this channel must be re-referenced. Interface signals are set. Alarm display. NC Stop on alarm.

Root Cause Summary

Alarm 26101 indicates loss of communication between the NCK (numerical control kernel) and the drive control module via the DRIVE-CLiQ interface or servo amplifier connection. This prevents axis motion commands from reaching the drive and halts all controlled movements on the affected axis.

Safety

  • Drive/power/encoder circuit: hazardous voltages may remain in the DC link after power-off. Lock out / tag out, wait for discharge per the drive documentation, and use qualified personnel only.

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

Power down the machine and inspect the DRIVE-CLiQ connector on both the NCK interface module and drive %2. Check for bent pins, corrosion, or moisture ingress.

Ensure emergency stop is engaged and 24V DC supply is isolated before touching connectors.

  2. 2

Reseat the DRIVE-CLiQ cable firmly at both ends; listen for the connector click. Verify cable routing avoids high-voltage power lines and does not show visible damage, kinks, or pinch points.

  3. 3

If cable appears damaged, replace with a Siemens-certified DRIVE-CLiQ cable of correct length. Do not use aftermarket or third-party cables as they may not meet timing specifications.

  4. 4

Power up and monitor Diagnostics > Axis Status (NCK menu path: Service > Diagnostics > Axis %1) to confirm communication is re-established before resuming operation.
