Siemens 26007 - Axis QEC: invalid coarse step size

Axis QEC: invalid coarse step size

The course step width for QEC must be within the range 1 <= course step width <= maximum value of MD18342 $MN_MM_QEC_MAX_POINTS (currently 1025), because a greater number of values would exceed the available memory space Control reaction: Alarm display.

Root Cause Summary

Alarm 26007 fires when the QEC (Quick Electronic Calibration) coarse step size parameter is configured outside the valid range of 1 to MD 18342 (MM_QEC_MAX_POINTS, default 1025). This memory constraint prevents allocation of excessive QEC calibration point arrays in the NCK memory space, which would corrupt system memory or prevent proper QEC execution.

Safety

  • Only qualified personnel should diagnose and clear control alarms; follow the machine builder's safety procedures and lockout/tagout where hardware work is required.

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

Access Diagnostics menu: Siemens HMI > Service > Diagnostics > Parameters > Machine Data. Navigate to axis-specific parameters and locate MD 18340 (MM_QEC_COARSE_STEP_WIDTH) for the affected axis.

  2. 2

Verify the current value of MD 18342 (MM_QEC_MAX_POINTS) on the same axis. Default is typically 1025 points. Check against actual memory allocation in your machine commissioning documentation.

  3. 3

Reduce MD 18340 value to fall within the range 1 to MD 18342. For example, if MD 18342 = 1025, set MD 18340 to a value ≤ 1025. Common values range from 10 to 100 depending on axis travel distance.

Do not increase MD 18342 beyond 1025 without memory recalculation by Siemens support; this will cause NCK memory overflow.

  4. 4

Save changes and perform a warm restart (POWER ON/OFF cycle) to reload machine data. Verify alarm clears and QEC mode can be entered without 26007 recurrence.
