Siemens 25201 - Axis drive fault

Axis drive fault

For PROFIdrive: The drive signals a serious fault which prevents the drive from being ready. The exact cause of the fault can be found by evaluating the additionally output drive alarms (It may be necessary to activate these diagnostic alarms by parameterizing the MDs DRIVE_FUNCTION_MASK, PROFIBUS_ALARM_ACCESS etc): Alarms 380500 and 380501 (or the corresponding alarm numbers implemented on the HMI side). The alarm can be reprogrammed in the MD11412 $MN_ALARM_REACTION_CHAN_NOREADY (channel not ready) Control reaction: Mode group not ready. The NC switches to follow-up mode. Channel not ready. NC Start disable in this channel. Interface signals are set. Alarm display. NC Stop on alarm. Channel not ready.

Root Cause Summary

SIEMENS alarm 25201 TRANSMIT Error indicates a communication failure in the SINUMERIK data transmission chain, typically between the NCK and HMI or during program/parameter transfer operations. This alarm is triggered when the system detects corrupted data packets, timeout conditions, or hardware communication interface failures.

Safety

  • Drive/power/encoder circuit: hazardous voltages may remain in the DC link after power-off. Lock out / tag out, wait for discharge per the drive documentation, and use qualified personnel only.

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

    Check Ethernet Cable Connections

Verify X120 and X130 Ethernet connections are secure. Check cable integrity with multimeter for continuity on pins 1,2,3,6.

Power down system before disconnecting Ethernet cables to prevent data corruption.

  2. 2

    Verify Network Configuration

Access Commissioning → Network → Ethernet settings. Verify IP addresses match MD11210 (NCK_IP_ADDRESS) and MD11211 (HMI_IP_ADDRESS).

Default NCK IP is typically 192.168.214.1, HMI is 192.168.214.10

  3. 3

    Test Communication with PING

Use HMI diagnostics menu → Service → Network diagnostics to ping NCK. Response time should be <10ms.

Packet loss >5% indicates hardware interface degradation

  4. 4

    Replace Ethernet Interface Module

If ping fails consistently, replace the Ethernet interface card (typically 6FC5357-0BB35-0AA0 for NCU).

Ensure exact part number match and proper ESD handling procedures

DIY Feasiblehigh confidence

Call a technician if:

  • ·Hardware replacement required
  • ·Multiple communication interfaces failing
  • ·System backup/restore needed

Prevention

  • Regular Ethernet cable inspection
  • Monitor communication buffer utilization
  • Maintain proper PROFIBUS termination
  • Use industrial-grade CF cards
  • Implement regular system backups

Common Mistakes

  • Ignoring loose cable connections
  • Incorrect network IP configuration
  • Missing PROFIBUS termination resistors
  • Using consumer-grade CompactFlash cards
  • Modifying communication parameters without backup
