Siemens 840D 22280 - Channel in block: Prog. acceleration path too short,

Channel in block: Prog. acceleration path too short,

Siemens SINUMERIK 840D alarm 22280: Channel in block: Prog. acceleration path too short,. This alarm indicates a spindle-related fault or programming error on the specified channel. The affected spindle function cannot be executed.

Root Cause Summary

Alarm 22280 fires when the programmed acceleration path length is insufficient to achieve the requested axis acceleration within dynamic limits on a spindle or thread axis. The NCK calculates that the physical distance available cannot accommodate the acceleration ramp at the specified jerk/dynamics without exceeding axis load capacity.

Safety

  • Refer to Siemens documentation
  • Ensure qualified technician performs repairs

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

In MDI or program, check the block length in channel %2 block %3 using PROG→BLOCK SEARCH or LIST command. Identify the G01 move distance on the affected axis.

Do not modify the program during machine operation; use Teach Pendant offline.

  2. 2

Verify MD35100 (AXACCEL) or axis-specific acceleration parameter is not exceeding 90-95% of maximum load. Cross-reference with MD32000 CTRLPARAM or use DIAGNOSE→AXIS menu to view actual vs. programmed acceleration.

  3. 3

Increase the block length (move distance) in the NC program, or reduce feedrate F-word to extend dwell time. Alternatively, reduce jerk via MD35130 AXIS_JERK if thread acceleration smoothing is not critical.

  4. 4

Reload and test program with SINGLE BLOCK mode. Monitor SERVO LOAD on HMI Diagnostics panel to confirm axis load stays below 80%.
