Siemens 15000 - Block channel-sync command using illegal marker

Block channel-sync command using illegal marker

A WAITM/WAITMC/SETM/CLEARM instruction was programmed with a marker number of less than 1 or greater than the maximum number of markers. Exception: CLEARM(0) is allowed and clears all markers in the channel! Control reaction: Correction block is reorganized. Interface signals are set. Alarm display.

Root Cause Summary

SIEMENS alarm 15000 indicates the spindle drive has detected an internal fault condition and communicated this to the NCK via the drive interface. The alarm is a high-level wrapper that requires examination of the drive's own diagnostic display or fault buffer to identify the specific underlying drive fault code.

Safety

  • Only qualified personnel should diagnose and clear control alarms; follow the machine builder's safety procedures and lockout/tagout where hardware work is required.

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

    Check Drive Display

Navigate to drive unit LED display or HMI Diagnostics > Drive > Fault Buffer to read the specific drive fault code (typically F30001-F30008 range for overcurrent faults).

Drive fault codes are more specific than NCK alarms - always check drive level first

  2. 2

    Verify Motor Parameters

    Check MD36200 (MOTOR_DATA) and MD36300 (DRIVE_DATA) parameters match motor nameplate. Verify MD36210 RATED_CURRENT and MD36220 MAX_CURRENT settings.

Incorrect motor parameters can cause nuisance overcurrent trips or inadequate protection

  3. 3

    Inspect Motor and Cables

Check spindle motor windings with megohmmeter, inspect power cable connections at drive and motor terminals for loose connections or damage.

Intermittent overcurrent often indicates loose power connections or motor bearing issues

  4. 4

    Check Mechanical Load

Verify spindle mechanical condition - seized bearings, damaged toolholder, or excessive cutting loads can cause overcurrent conditions.

Never ignore mechanical binding - can damage drive and motor

DIY Feasiblehigh confidence

Call a technician if:

  • ·Drive hardware replacement required
  • ·Complex parameter optimization needed
  • ·Motor replacement required

Prevention

  • Regular drive cooling system maintenance
  • Monitor spindle load conditions via r0031/r0032
  • Implement predictive maintenance on encoder systems
  • Maintain proper ambient temperature <40°C

Common Mistakes

  • Ignoring specific drive fault codes
  • Replacing drive without checking motor parameters
  • Not verifying communication network integrity
  • Overlooking mechanical binding issues
