Siemens 15100 - Block REORG abort caused by log file overflow

Block REORG abort caused by log file overflow

In order to synchronize the preprocessing run and the main run with REORG, the control accesses modification data which are maintained in a logfile. The alarm indicates that no more capacity is available in the logfile for the specified block in the channel Control reaction: Interpreter stop NC Start disable in this channel. Interface signals are set. Alarm display.

Root Cause Summary

SIEMENS alarm 15100 occurs when the spindle fails to reach the commanded orientation position within the tolerance window defined by MD35110 (SPIND_POSITIONING_TOL) before the timeout period MD35120 (SPIND_POSITIONING_TIME) expires. The control compares actual spindle position feedback against the target orient angle and triggers this alarm when position deviation exceeds acceptable limits or mechanical/electrical faults prevent proper orientation.

Safety

  • Only qualified personnel should diagnose and clear control alarms; follow the machine builder's safety procedures and lockout/tagout where hardware work is required.

Causes and Fixes

  1. 1

    Check spindle positioning parameters

Navigate to Parameters > Machine Data > Spindle and verify MD35110 (positioning tolerance) is typically 0.1-1.0 degrees and MD35120 (positioning time) is 3000-10000ms depending on spindle inertia.

  2. 2

    Monitor actual positioning performance

Use Service > Trace > Spindle to observe actual settle time and position deviation during M19 command execution.

Record multiple orient cycles to identify consistency issues

  3. 3

Adjust parameters based on mechanical capability

Increase MD35120 by 50% increments if spindle consistently orients correctly but exceeds time limit, or relax MD35110 if position hunting occurs within acceptable mechanical tolerance.

DIY Feasiblehigh confidence

Call a technician if:

  • ·Drive fault buffer shows hardware failures
  • ·Mechanical binding requires bearing replacement
  • ·Encoder replacement needed

Prevention

  • Regular spindle bearing lubrication per OEM schedule
  • Periodic encoder signal quality monitoring
  • Maintain proper spindle brake adjustment

Common Mistakes

  • Setting positioning tolerance too tight for mechanical capability
  • Ignoring drive fault buffer before adjusting NC parameters
  • Adjusting timeout without addressing root mechanical issues
