Siemens 840D 14035 - Channel block involute: start point invalid

Channel block involute: start point invalid

With involute interpolation, the start point of the involute must be outside the basic circle. The programmed center point or radius must be adapted accordingly.

Safety

  • Refer to Siemens documentation
  • Ensure qualified technician performs repairs

Common Causes

  • Programmed start point lies on or inside the involute base circle diameter
  • Incorrect base circle radius specified in the involute geometry definition
  • Center point of the involute positioned too close to or coincident with the start point
  • CAM post-processor error generating involute coordinates that violate geometric constraints
  • Involute profile definition inherited from previous program with incompatible geometry

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Verify the start point coordinates are mathematically outside the base circle by calculating distance from center point and comparing to base circle radius
  2. 2Review the involute base circle radius parameter and confirm it matches the design intent from the CAM model or technical drawing
  3. 3Check the center point coordinates and ensure they are correctly referenced in the program; recalculate involute start point if center has shifted
  4. 4Re-post-process the program from CAM software ensuring involute start point validation is enabled and base circle parameters are correctly exported
  5. 5Manually edit the NC block to adjust either the start point coordinates outward or reduce the base circle radius until start point clears the base circle geometry
