Okuma OSP Alarm D 4689 - MCS Rotary encoder 2 error

MCS Rotary encoder 2 error

The MCS drive detected illegal data from rotary encoder 2, an INA-BEARING encoder, on the axis named in the object. The code shows whether the A-phase or B-phase voltage data is illegal and its value, so the axis feedback is untrustworthy.

Common Causes

  • Failed INA-BEARING rotary encoder 2
  • Encoder cable or connector fault corrupting A/B phase signals
  • Contamination or damage at the encoder sensing elements
  • Signal level drift in the encoder's A or B aspect voltage

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Read the code number shown with the alarm: code XXXX=000A = Illegal data of A aspect voltage; YYYY = A aspect voltage value.; code XXXX=000B = Illegal data of B aspect voltage; YYYY = B aspect voltage value.
  2. 2Read the code: XXXX 000A hex means the A aspect voltage data is illegal, 000B hex means the B aspect voltage data is illegal, and YYYY is the offending voltage value, so you know which phase to suspect.
  3. 3Inspect the cable and connector of rotary encoder 2 (INA-BEARING) for damage, oil or bent pins and reseat both ends.
  4. 4Swap the encoder cable with a known-good cable and cycle power to see whether the same aspect voltage error returns.
  5. 5Check the encoder mounting and sensing area for contamination or damage that would distort the A or B phase output.
  6. 6If the error persists, replace rotary encoder 2 (INA-BEARING) as the manual's corrective action directs, then re-home the axis.
