Okuma OSP Alarm B 2688 - MCS Rotary encoder 3 error

MCS Rotary encoder 3 error

Illegal data was detected coming from Rotary encoder 3 (HEIDENHAIN) on the axis shown in the object field. The feedback data stream from the encoder is corrupt or invalid.

Common Causes

  • Failed Rotary encoder 3 (HEIDENHAIN) unit
  • Damaged encoder cable or poor connector contact causing data corruption

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Note the axis in the object field to locate Rotary encoder 3 on the machine.
  2. 2Lock out the machine and inspect the Rotary encoder 3 (HEIDENHAIN) cable run and connectors for chafing, coolant ingress or bent pins; reseat the connectors.
  3. 3Check that the encoder cable is routed away from motor power cables, since noise pickup can corrupt the encoder data.
  4. 4Replace Rotary encoder 3 (HEIDENHAIN) as the manual directs, then cycle power and jog the axis to confirm clean feedback.
  5. 5If it returns after these checks, record the alarm number, code and object and contact Okuma service.
