Okuma OSP Alarm A 1189 - MCS Axis change control error

MCS Axis change control error

An axis change (transfer of an axis between control sides) did not complete normally. The fault is in the handshaking between the NC/PLC and the MCS controller, not inside the MCS itself.

Common Causes

  • Faulty MCS controller handling the PLC axis
  • Faulty control software
  • A reset, ready signal, or data transfer not completing within the 10-second timeout

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Read the code number shown with the alarm: code 1 = MCS did not complete its reset within 10 seconds; code 2 = Parameter set number matching signal or control ready signal did not turn ON within 10 seconds; code 3 = MCS did not receive the maximum APA value from the split encoder within 10 seconds; code 6 = MCS controller could not change the in-position amount or zero offset within 10 seconds; code A = MCS controller could not change the in-position amount or zero offset within 10 seconds after an alarm occurred
  2. 2Read the code shown on screen to identify which handshake step timed out.
  3. 3Code 1: the MCS did not reset within 10 s of the axis change request; retry the axis change and watch whether the MCS completes its reset.
  4. 4Code 2: the parameter-set-number matching signal or control-ready signal never came ON within 10 s; check the PLC-side signals involved in the axis change sequence.
  5. 5Code 3: the MCS did not receive the maximum APA value from the split encoder within 10 s; inspect the split encoder and its connection.
  6. 6Code 6 or A: the MCS could not change the in-position amount or zero offset within 10 s (A = after an alarm occurred); this points to the MCS controller for the PLC axis or its software.
  7. 7If retries fail, the probable causes are the MCS controller for the PLC axis or faulty software; record the alarm number, code, and axis and contact Okuma service.
