Okuma OSP Alarm A 1181 - MCS DIFF over

MCS DIFF over

The control detected that the following error (the gap between the commanded position RCON and the actual axis position) exceeded its allowable limit while the axis was moving. This means the axis could not keep up with the command, typically due to excessive mechanical load or a drive/motor problem.

Common Causes

  • Mechanical overload from a worn or damaged ball screw or bearing
  • Faulty servo motor
  • Faulty inverter unit
  • Corrupted or incorrect servo data file

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Note the axis named in the alarm object and the code value, which is the absolute following error in pr/65536 units (pr = one encoder revolution); a large value confirms the axis lagged badly.
  2. 2With power off and locked out, manually rotate or move the axis ball screw and feel for binding, rough spots, or play indicating a bad ball screw or bearing.
  3. 3Check for signs of overload during the cut when the alarm occurred (heavy depth of cut, dull tool, crashed axis) and retry with reduced load.
  4. 4Inspect the servo motor and its power/feedback cables and connectors for damage or looseness before condemning the motor.
  5. 5If the mechanical side checks out, suspect the inverter unit; lock out power and allow DC bus discharge time before inspecting or swapping it.
  6. 6If the alarm persists, reload or verify the servo data file for that axis; if still unresolved, record the alarm number, code, and axis and contact Okuma service.
