Okuma OSP Alarm A 1185 - MCS Speed deviation over

MCS Speed deviation over

The actual motor speed of the axis or spindle named in the object deviated excessively from the speed command. The code shows the detected torque and acceleration at the time, which typically means the motor could not physically follow the command.

Common Causes

  • Motor does not turn because of mechanical lock
  • Excessively large load applied to the axis or spindle
  • Mechanical binding in the drivetrain (ball screw, gears, bearings)
  • Tool crash or workpiece interference stalling the motor

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Read the code number shown with the alarm: code XXXX = Detected torque: sum of torque data over 3.2 ms in +-2^-12 [MAXTRQ]; momentary max H'7FFF at Tv=0.4ms, H'3FFF at Tv=0.8ms.; code YYYY = Detected acceleration averaged over 3.2 ms in +-2^-16 [vr/3.2ms/3.2ms], about 0.1 [1/min/ms].; code 00000001 = Error data replaced by zero because of exponent underflow.
  2. 2Read the code: XXXX is the detected torque (sum over 3.2 ms, +-2^-12 of MAXTRQ) and YYYY is the detected acceleration; a code of 00000001 means the error data was replaced by zero due to exponent underflow.
  3. 3Check for a mechanical lock on the named axis or spindle: the manual points to the motor not turning under mechanical lock or large load, so look for a crash, seized bearing or jammed ball screw.
  4. 4Try turning the axis or spindle by hand with power locked out to feel for binding in the drivetrain.
  5. 5Review the recent cutting conditions: an aggressive cut or tool collision can stall the motor, so reduce load and retry after clearing the cause.
  6. 6If mechanics are free, inspect the motor and its coupling, then run the axis unloaded and confirm the actual speed tracks the command without deviation.
