KRC0249

KUKA Robot KRC0249 - ACKN. REGULATOR LIMIT EXCEEDED <axis number>

ACKN. REGULATOR LIMIT EXCEEDED <axis number>

The position controller output for the specified axis has exceeded the maximum machine datum limit defined in parameter $COM_VAL_MI, causing the control signal to saturate. The axis command cannot be followed because the controller has reached its output limitation and cannot generate sufficient corrective force.

Common Causes

  • Motor current limit or amplifier saturation due to excessive load or friction on the axis
  • Incorrect $COM_VAL_MI parameter setting that is too low for the actual application requirements
  • Servo loop tuning parameters (P, I, D gains) too aggressive causing overshoot and saturation
  • Mechanical binding, gear backlash, or joint friction increasing resistance beyond design specification
  • Position feedback sensor degradation or encoder resolution loss reducing control accuracy

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Check the current $COM_VAL_MI value against KUKA documentation specifications for this axis type and payload
  2. 2Verify axis moves freely without load by executing a manual jog motion at reduced speed on KUKA smartPAD
  3. 3Review servo tuning parameters (P, I, D gains) in the axis configuration and reduce P gain incrementally
  4. 4Measure actual motor current draw using diagnostic tools to identify if load exceeds motor rating
  5. 5Perform axis recalibration using WorkVisual to reset control loop parameters to factory defaults
  6. 6If mechanical resistance is suspected, engage KUKA service for axis inspection and potential replacement of motor or gearbox
