KRC0100

KUKA Robot KRC0100 - RDW Boot Up Failure

RDW Boot Up Failure

This alarm indicates the Robot Drive Watchdog (RDW) subsystem on the KRC4/KRC5 controller failed to initialize properly during the boot sequence. The RDW is a critical safety monitoring system that supervises servo drive communication and motion control. Without successful RDW initialization, the controller cannot enable drives or execute motion commands.

Common Causes

  • Corrupted RDW firmware or missing boot files in the KRC boot partition due to improper shutdown or storage failure
  • Communication failure on the internal SERCOS or EtherCAT ring between KPC and drive modules during power-up
  • Defective RDW hardware module or KPP (KUKA Power Pack) communication board requiring replacement
  • Incorrect voltage supply to drive modules preventing proper initialization handshake with RDW system
  • Configuration mismatch in machine data files after WorkVisual project restore or version incompatibility

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Step 1: Perform a controlled shutdown and cold restart with all E-Stop circuits verified clear to allow clean boot sequence
  2. 2Step 2: Check event log in Diagnosis > Logbook for detailed RDW error sub-codes and communication timeout messages
  3. 3Step 3: Verify 600VDC bus voltage is present and stable using Diagnosis > Drive > DC-Link display before boot
  4. 4Step 4: Inspect all X30 SERCOS or EtherCAT fiber/copper cables between KPC and drive modules for damage or poor connection
  5. 5Step 5: Access Service > System Info and verify RDW firmware version matches KSS version, update if mismatch detected using KUKA Recovery Stick
  6. 6Step 6: Contact KUKA support to verify machine data integrity and consider KPP or drive module hardware replacement if communication remains failed
