KRC0098

KUKA Robot KRC0098 - FAILURE OF MOTOR TEMPERATURE SENSOR <AXIS NUMBER>

FAILURE OF MOTOR TEMPERATURE SENSOR <AXIS NUMBER>

This alarm indicates that the temperature sensor (thermistor or PT100) on the specified motor axis has failed or become disconnected from the controller. The KRC system continuously monitors motor temperatures to prevent thermal damage and ensure safe operation; loss of this sensor signal prevents proper temperature supervision of that axis.

Common Causes

  • Broken or loose connector between motor temperature sensor and servo drive/controller board
  • Damaged temperature sensor element (thermistor or PT100 RTD) due to mechanical stress or overheating
  • Corroded or oxidized sensor connector pins causing poor electrical contact
  • Severed or pinched temperature sensor wiring in cable harness or robot arm routing
  • Faulty servo drive card or controller input channel unable to read sensor signal

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Visually inspect the temperature sensor connector on the affected motor axis for loose, corroded, or damaged pins and reseat the connector firmly
  2. 2Check the temperature sensor wiring along the entire cable path for visible damage, kinks, or pinch points; repair or replace damaged sections
  3. 3Use a multimeter to measure resistance at the sensor connector to verify the sensor element is functioning within specification (typically 100Ω at 0°C for PT100)
  4. 4Power down the robot and disconnect the temperature sensor connector, then clean both male and female contact surfaces with isopropyl alcohol and allow to dry completely
  5. 5If available, swap the temperature sensor connector to a known working axis to determine if the fault is sensor-related or controller-related
  6. 6If the alarm persists after reconnection, contact KUKA service to replace either the temperature sensor or servo drive board depending on diagnostic results
