KRC0062

KUKA Robot KRC0062 - DN CH ... WATCHDOG ERROR

DN CH ... WATCHDOG ERROR

The DN CH (Drive Number Channel) Watchdog Error indicates that the communication or monitoring between the KRC controller and a specific axis drive has failed or timed out. The watchdog timer in the drive channel has expired, meaning the controller did not receive expected status signals or heartbeat signals within the required time interval. This is a critical safety alarm that prevents robot motion until the fault is resolved.

Common Causes

  • Loose or corroded connector between KRC controller and axis drive unit
  • Damaged or faulty encoder feedback cable on the affected axis
  • Drive electronics failure or malfunction in the axis servo drive
  • Communication bus error between controller and drive (CAN-bus or analog interface corruption)
  • Electromagnetic interference (EMI) affecting signal integrity between components

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. 1Identify which axis (DN number) is affected by checking the complete alarm code display and note the specific channel
  2. 2Power cycle the entire KRC system using the main disconnect switch, wait 30 seconds, and restart to clear transient communication errors
  3. 3Visually inspect all connectors between the KRC controller cabinet and the affected axis drive for looseness, corrosion, or pin damage
  4. 4Check and reseat the encoder feedback cable and all axis drive communication cables, ensuring proper seating and no bent pins
  5. 5Use KRC diagnostic software to perform a drive communication test and verify watchdog timer threshold settings in the controller configuration
  6. 6If the alarm persists after cable inspection, contact KUKA service for drive electronics diagnosis or replacement of the faulty servo drive unit
